About the Canadian Digital Core Library (CDCL)

The Canadian Digital Core Library (CDCL) is a national initiative to digitize Canada's geological drill core data and make it openly accessible through an AI-ready platform. With investment from the Government of Canada, Creative Destruction Lab is developing the Canadian Digital Core Library platform, which will bring together geological data from across Canada – including data held by provincial and territorial geological surveys – to help accelerate mineral discovery, reduce exploration risk, and strengthen Canada's critical minerals sector. This role leads the initiative's engagement with provinces and territories – the relationships, agreements, and coordination through which their drill core data flows into the CDCL.

Role Summary

The Provincial & Territorial Engagement Lead is the primary individual responsible for CDL's relationships with participating provincial and territorial (P/T) geological surveys, and leads the P/T engagement workstream through Phase 1. Working across a federated structure, the role is the connective tissue that keeps these independent agreements aligned toward a shared national outcome. This role coordinates the ingestion of P/T data into the platform, and runs the regular cadence of engagement, reporting, and learning-sharing the model depends on. The role also supports broader engagement across the CDCL network, such as with the federal government (e.g., Natural Resources Canada) and the wider mining ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the P/T engagement workstream, working alongside CDL's industry and academic collaborators, and own relationships with participating P/T geological survey teams throughout the project.

  • Run a regular meeting cadence with each P/T team to maintain alignment, share learnings across jurisdictions, resolve issues, and coordinate reporting across the federated CDL and P/T agreement structure.

  • Coordinate the open-data licensing approach and conformance with CDCL scanning and data standards with each P/T, preserving P/T data ownership and IP.

  • Coordinate the initial connection of P/T infrastructure with CDL, and ingestion of P/T data into the CDCL with the platform team.

  • Coordinate with the Committee of Provincial and Territorial Geologists (CPTG), and with the National Geological Surveys Committee (NGSC) on an ad hoc basis.

  • Consolidate P/T engagement activities into program, Steering Committee, and NRCan reporting.

  • Support broader CDCL network engagement as needed such as with the federal government (e.g., Natural Resources Canada) and the wider mining ecosystem (e.g., associations, academic, and industry parties).

  • Contribute P/T onboarding materials to the playbooks that enable additional jurisdictions to integrate beyond Phase 1

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in public policy, natural resources, geoscience, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

  • 10+ years in senior stakeholder engagement, partnerships, or program leadership across sectors (e.g., government, academic, nonprofit, or private), including experience working with or across government.

  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining multi-party relationships and driving alignment across independent organizations toward shared outcomes.

  • Strong coordination, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to run a regular reporting and alignment cadence across many parties.

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving, federated environment with distributed accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Canadian minerals/geoscience sector, P/T geological surveys, or public geoscience data.

  • Understanding of contribution-agreement or grant-funded delivery and intergovernmental structures.

  • Experience with data-sharing, data-governance, or Indigenous engagement in a public-data context.

  • Knowledge of the CDCL, critical minerals, or national data infrastructure.

  • Sector background is less important than a proven ability to build trusted, multi-party relationships and drive alignment; familiarity with the minerals/geoscience or public-data sector is an asset.
